History:

“… Neither the mind nor the body is supreme — one cannot be subordinated to the other. Both must be coordinated, in order not only to accomplish the maximum results with the minimum expenditure of mental and physical energy, but also to live as long as possible in normal health and enjoy the benefits of a useful and happy life…”

– J.H. Pilates

What is Pilates?

It is a body of work (exercises) … created by Joseph Hubertus Pilates (1880-1967) as a result of a lifetime of study of the human body and movement. He called his method “Contrology” and published his book “Return to Life Through Contrology” in 1945, which details exercises and instructions to his matwork — based on his concepts of a balanced body and mind.

It is also a lifestyle … Joe wrote a second book “Your Health” in which he offers advice on posture, body mechanics, correct breathing, spinal flexibility and the importance of good nutrition and the benefits of sleep! He was a man ahead of his time.

“Pilates” as taught by Marguerite Bachmann in her Soul 2 Sole Studio is a series of exercises mindfully executed with Joe’s 6 principles of …
Concentration, control, centering, breathing, precision and flowing movement.
